Do you know these tips for keeping your pet safe this summer?
Summer time is fun time, but it isn't fun if your furry friends aren’t safe and happy. Check out these tips to make sure your pets stay safe and happy this summer season!
1. KEEP TAGS AND CHIPS CURRENT
Keep your dogs safe as you take them for walks, enter and exit the house and car, travel, and just enjoy a typical day of fun with them by giving them tracking chips. Make sure your pets have a veterinarian-implanted microchip so that, in the event they become lost, you can be found. Verify that the chip tracking provider has your most recent contact details as well. What about that collar ID tag you crafted years ago? To aid in a missing pet being found more quickly, make sure it contains your phone number or the information for your veterinarian.
2. MEDICATIONS AND VACCINATIONS
By keeping vaccines and medication up to date, you may easily prevent certain common summertime pet diseases. Almost everywhere in the summer, pests like ticks and mosquitoes are annoying and love to bite our pets. Applying a veterinarian-recommended heartworm prevention medication will shield your pet all year long against the fatal heartworms that can be spread between pets through mosquito bites. This summer, make sure all necessary pet medications are filled, maintained appropriately, and that flea treatment and rabies vaccinations are up to date.
3. RENEW YOUR BASIC FIRST AID KNOWLEDGE.
It's important to know some basic first aid techniques in case of minor situations to ensure your pet's safety throughout the summer and every day. Knowing what to do can help save your pet's life when you get them to the veterinarian in the event of an emergency. The American Red Cross's online course on cat and dog first aid is good, in our opinion. You may learn the fundamentals of giving first aid to your pet and how to provide treatment in an emergency for a $25 cost. If there is ever a pet health emergency, please do not hesitate to bring your pet in for a visit.
4. DO NOT LEAVE PETS ALONE IN THE CAR
Many animals, especially dogs, like automobile rides. And almost everyone has experienced a situation where leaving pets alone in the car while running a brief errand seemed acceptable. We strongly advise against doing that. It is insufficient to just leave the windows open or park in the shade. Pets can overheat in just a few minutes in a hot automobile, which can result in heatstroke or even death. Don't jeopardize the health of your pet family member. Before running those errands, bring your dog or cat home. Please transfer your pet to a cool area right away, give them small sips of water, and call any emergency veterinary hospital if you believe they may have become too hot.
5. KEEP THEM CALM
Animals can become alarmed by a sudden influx of unfamiliar sounds and odors in your home. They won't understand the thunderous music or dazzling pyrotechnics.
Ensure that your pets have a secure area to retreat to away from the chaos. It might be a unique bed or a quieter location.
If loud gatherings or summer thunderstorms are likely to annoy your pet, think about buying over-the-counter calming medication, like Brave Paws.
