Why we care about regenerative farming practices

The oceans are getting warmer, arctic permafrost is thawing, and heat waves are becoming more prevalent throughout much of the world.

At this point, the evidence is clear: climate change is definitely happening.

Yet despite the insurmountable data, many ordinary people (like you and me) often feel at a loss. Afterall, the majority of us aren’t scientists! Sure, we recycle. Or try to cut down on carbon emissions by bicycling to work and taking public transit.

But for the average dog mom and dad, it can be confusing to figure out how our decisions as pet owners effect the planet. Most animal lovers want to be eco-friendly and planet conscious. We just aren’t sure how.

One easy way?

Support companies that sell pet products made using regenerative farming practices!

For example, Brave Paws. Ingredients for Brave Paws Anxiety and Stress Support Chewables for Dogs are sourced from Costa Rica using modern sustainable methods.

Read on to discover how regenerative farming practices are shaking up everything you knew about buying pet products, with Brave Paws at the forefront of this exciting new space.

What are regenerative farming practices?

According to Green America, the term regenerative agriculture describes “a holistic land-management practice that uses the power of photosynthesis in plants to sequester carbon in the soil while improving soil health, crop yields, water resilience, and nutrient density.”

Essentially, this means focusing on land conservation and rehabilitation.

When soil is healthy, the entire ecosystem benefits. Crops will be more tolerant of extreme weather. Plus, there is less need for pesticides and other harmful chemicals. That in turn helps microbes, fungi, and worms thrive. Practice regenerative farming for long enough, and suddenly the biodiversity is booming!

Instead of monoculture forests and dry water deserts, we see lush vegetation. Rather than thick smog, we see improved air quality. All of which makes life better for us, and our dogs.

Brave Paws “leads the pack” in sustainability for dog anxiety products

Of course, regenerative farming doesn’t happen by luck.

It takes dedicated teams of people who are committed to sustainably farming the land in this manner. For more than 20 years, the brains behind Brave Paws have done exactly that. Tony Durst (the man who discovered the anti-anxiety canine potential of the Souroubea plant) specifically chose to place sustainability at the heart of the company.

Here’s how.

First, Brave Paws teamed up with a female-led farming Co-Op in  on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica involving twenty-three families. Together, they maintain a plantation which allows the company to sustainably source Souroubea plant material without depleting its occurrence in the rainforest.

This simultaneously provides economic opportunities for the Co-Op.

Equally important is how the plants are harvested. Despite only accounting for 0.03% of Earth’s surface area, Costa Rica possesses the highest density of biodiversity of any country worldwide. Wow! Therefore, protecting the valuable habitats of millions of plants and animals has always been a top priority for Brave Paws.

In summary, Brave Paws is passionate about caring for pets, people, and the planet. We continually strive towards greater use of renewable energy, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable solutions, as well as reducing the carbon footprint.
